The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, Washington. In 1999, it was designated a historic landmark. This Seattle icon was built in the Seattle Center for the 1962 World’s Fair, which drew over 2.3 million visitors. Nearly 20,000 people a day used its elevators throughout that event.
As one of the tallest structures west of the Mississippi River, the Space Needle has an observation deck and a rotating restaurant 500 ft up in the sky. Tourists and locals alike flock to the Space Needle each day where they take in spectacular views of the downtown Seattle skyline, as well as the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, Elliott Bay and surrounding islands. The SkyCity Restaurant inside the Needle features Pacific Northwest cuisine as well as a rotating panoramic view. It rotates 360 degrees in exactly forty-seven minutes.
